Tyrone Enjoy Comfortable Win Over QUB
Sunday 12.01.2014

Tyrone made it two wins from two starts following their 3-19 to 1-8 win over the students of Queens University at Healy Park this afternon. On a day when the wind and rain made good football difficult Tyrone found the students hard to cope with in a tight opening half that saw the sides level on no fewer than five occasions. A Danny Mc Nulty goal on eight minutes appeared to give the Red Hand county the edge but credit to the students they fought for every ball with Darren O’Hanlon, Martin Mc Elhinney, Ryan Murray and Ryan Rafferty particularly prominent.
The teams went in level at 1-6 apiece at the break but Queens began the second half better to lead 1-8 to 1-7 after six minutes of the second period following two fine points from Rory Grugan. However that was as good as it got for the students. Tyrone introduced Mattie Donnelly and Ronan O’Neill up front with Aidan Mc Crory coming into defence. With Niall Mc Kenna, Conan Grugan, Peter Hughes and Kevin Gallagher working hard the home side began to turn the screw. They hit 2-12 without reply as the students found themselves running into a series of second half roadblocks with Tyrone’s workrate highly impressive. Mickey Harte’s side can now look forward to Wednesday night’s clash with Armagh knowing that a win will see them top the table and qualify for the semi finals of the competition.
