Tyrone entertained Dublin in their final qualifying game at Healy Park on Sunday but lost 1-16 to 0-13 in a game played in front of almost sixteen thousand eager spectators.

Both teams showed numerous changes from their last competitive fixture but any fears of a drop in class or quality were soon dispelled as the play ebbed and flowed.

Dublin settled quickly and by the fifteenth minute were three clear following points from Paddy Small, Cormac Costello (3) and Seàn Bugler. Tyrone enjoyed lots of possession and created numerous chances but profligacy cost them in the end as they reached the break trailing 0-8 to 0-5. Ritchie Donnelly (2), Conor Mc Aliskey (2) and Conal Mc Cann with the Tyrone scores.

Exchanges increased in intensity during the second half as both teams upped the ante. Dublin extended their lead with a point from Kevin Mc Manamon but Tyrone replied hitting three out of the next four scores to narrow the gap to two with McAliskey (2) and the impressive Kyle Coney on target for Mickey Harte’s team.

Injuries and fatigue took their toll on a warm afternoon for football as both teams ran their benches. Conan Grugan and Coney hit points for their team while man of the match Seán Bugler and the returning Dermot Connolly, who was later black carded, lofted over fine scores for Dublin.

Tyrone came close on a few occasions to hitting the net but a combination of good goal keeping and bad luck denied the Red Hands the chance of a three pointer.

Paddy Andrews and Bernard Brogan added points to the Dublin tally before Niall Sludden and Conor McAliskey brought Tyrone back into the game. Sensing there was something to be taken from the match Tyrone, driven on by Rory Brennan, pushed forward only to be caught out with a fast counter attack from the Dubs which resulted in a punched goal from the fists of Eoghan O’Gara.

Kevin Mc Manamon burst through for a fine point before Darren Mc Curry rounded off the scoring with a superb effort from out wide on the left.
