Tyrone minors are through to the semi finals of the Ulster championship but only after a severe examination of their credentials by a talented and well drilled Cavan side.

The game took place at Healy Park and right from the off Cavan showed they meant business. Playing against the breeze they were well organised and sat deep in defence but counter attacked with pace and intent.

James Daly got Tyrone on the scoreboard inside three minutes but a brace of Nathan Quigley scores had the visitors in front. Tyrone landed a pair of two pointers courtesy of Eoin Long and Peter Garrity .

Although Donagh Lynch and Jake Brady reduced the deficit for Cavan it was Tyrone who finished the half stronger hitting points from Eoin Long, Peter Colton and Joel Kerr to leave the half time score 0-11 to to 0-4 in favour of the home side.

The second half saw an improved display from Tyrone as they upped the work rate and intensity. Playing into the breeze they crowded the midfield and worked hard on the break ball. They did not however have it all their own way as Cavan reduced the gap and enjoyed quite a bit of possession and created a number of excellent scoring chances.

The Breffni lads spurned a number of good goal chances which ultimately cost them the game. They had excellent kickers in Nathan Quigley and Faolan Graham who both landed some outstanding frees during the course of the second half.

However James Mulgrew and Padraig Donaghy wrestled control around the middle third and as Cavan began to tire Tyrone took advantage of the spaces that appeared. Late scores from Matthew Daly, Eoin Long and Cathal Farley sealed the win and sent the young Red Hands through to the semi finals on a full time score of Tyrone 0-19, Cavan 0-13.
