Holy Trinity face a fight to stay in the MacRory Cup after losing 2-9 to 0-8 against St.Pats Maghera at Castledawson on Sunday afternoon. The Derry lads led 1-6 to 0-3 at the break with full forward Alex Doherty scoring a goal as well as a couple of points, Tiernan Quinn, Tiarnan Mackle and Mark Devlin the Holy Trinity marksmen.

Holy Trinity hit the opening three points of the second half through Quinn, Mackle and Shane Murphy but they were then dealt a blow when they had Devlin sent off. Within a few minutes Doherty had scored his second goal and Eunan Mulholland and Daithi McLaughlin tagged on points as Maghera ran out worthy winners.

Maghera and St.Macartans Monaghan meet next week in the final game in this group with the winner going into the MacCormack Cup semi finals as well as the last eight of the MacRory Cup.

Next week also sees two sudden death playoffs when the losers will bow out of this season’s Danske Bank MacRory Cup with Holy Trinity taking on St.Paul’s Bessbrook and St.Pat’s Cavan going head to head with Patrician High Carrickmacross. The two Danske Bank MacCormack Cup semi finals have been postponed until the second week of January.
