Dublin 5-18 0-12 Tyrone

All Ireland champions, Dublin proved too strong for a youthful Tyrone side in Croke Park on Sunday afternoon in the final fixture of the 2024 Allianz National League.

Tyrone took the opportunity to play several of the younger members of the squad having secured their division one status last week. However this was a tough afternoon as Dublin were at a different level and hopefully Tyrone will learn from the experience as Dublin’s movement and score taking cruelly illustrated the gulf between the teams on the day.

First half goals from Colm Basquel and Niall Scully saw Dublin lead 2-11 to 0-6, at the short whistle. Tyrone scores coming from Darren McCurry, Cathal McShane, Niall Morgan and Kieran McGeary.

Three goals in a five minutes spell cruelly exposed Tyrone’s frailties as by the 50th minute the home side were in cruise control.

Tyrone had second half scores from Ruairi Canavan (4), Lorcan McGarrity and Niall Morgan while their cause wasn’t helped by a considerable tally of fourteen wides.

Dublin will now look forward to meeting Derry next weekend in the league decider while Tyrone can retire to lick their wounds while preparing for their first round championship clash in four weeks time. In that they will face the winners of the preliminary round meeting between Cavan and Monaghan.

Tyrone N Morgan (0-2 1f), C Devlin, N McCarron, A Clarke, B Cullen, K McGeary (0-1), N Devlin, B Kennedy, A Donaghy, J Oguz, C Cush, L McGarrity(0-1), D McCurry(0-2, 1f), R Canavan (0-4, 1f), C McShane(0-2)

Subs: M Donnelly, Tarlach Quinn, S O’Donnell, C Daly, Tiernan Quinn.
